Amtrak 91 Crash Attorney Columbia
To Speak to a Lexington County Injury
During the early morning of Sunday, February 4, 2018, Amtrak 91 from New York headed to Miami derailed, shortly after passing through Columbia, South Carolina. The crash occurred in Lexington County close to the communities of West Columbia, Cayce, and Pine Ridge.
We recommend that you do not sign any settlement paperwork offered to you by the railroad until first consulting with a lawyer.
Shortly after the crash victims were transported to area hospitals including
Palmetto Health Richland and Lexington Medical Center. A command center
for Amtrak official and investigators was setup at the Pine Ridge Middle
School. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, but
initially it appears to be human error and related to freight cars being
left parked on the track. Amtrak’s total liability may be capped
under Federal Law at 200 million. The theories of legal liability are
not yet precisely known, but generally speaking these claims are brought
in either Federal or State (South Carolina), court, with violations claime.
Violations include:
- Negligence
- Gross Negligence
- Recklessness
With a request for the court to award monetary compensation for:
- Medical Bills
- Lost Wages
- Pain and Suffering
- Mental Anguish
