Bair Hugger Forced-Air Warming Blanket Lawsuits
Help from Our Columbia Personal Injury Attorney
The Bair Hugger Forced-Air Warming Blanket, manufactured by 3M, is a product designed to regulate body temperature. Its use in knee and hip replacement surgeries may result in a bacterial infection known as periprosthetic joint infection. This is a serious medical complication that can require extension additional medical care up to and including loss of the affected limb. Although many people successfully have joint replacement surgery, including surgery with the use of a warming blanket, others have had serious complications. There are currently lawsuits filed around the country seeking damages caused by use of the Bair Hugger product.
Symptoms of an infection may include:
- Drainage from the Surgical Area
- Swelling and Redness
- Fever
- Feelings of being unusually tired or fatigued
- Pain and Stiffness in the Affected Area
The warming blankets work by circulating warm air through a blanket draped over the patient. This can cause airflow which “kicks up” germs around the operating table, ultimately causing them to be exposed to the surgical site. When this occurs it can cause serious infections, including Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA).
